Woman's Work
specialises in early 19th century silkwork pictures. These
were traditionally a pastime for young girls and the quality of sewing was
extremely high. Many of them were worked from patterns drawn on the
background cloth with hands and faces painted in watercolour.
However it is also possible to come across pieces of a more naive and
individual nature which used appliqued felt or other
material to build pictures.
Besides
the needlework pictures, we sell 19th century oil paintings and
watercolours;
old toys and teawares.
We hope you
enjoy looking at the site and return to visit us often.
